AIDNA* EDITORIAL
Art Direction
AIDNA* needed a publication vehicle that could communicate the depth of their work beyond traditional documentation. Together with Maria Antonietta Santangelo, we shaped an editorial vision that treats each project not as an isolated case study, but as part of a larger conversation about architecture's role in shaping lived experience.
This required working across multiple dimensions. We established the conceptual framework for the publication determining how projects would be sequenced, what narratives would surface, and how the magazine's structure could reveal the studio's methodological approach. The layout and visual design became carefully orchestrated relationships between image, text, and white space, respecting the architecture itself while creating clear visual hierarchies. We curated photographs and drawings intentionally, selecting images that reveal the studio's thinking rather than simply showcasing spectacular shots. Beyond imagery, we contributed to the textual dimension, refining project descriptions, developing contextual essays, and crafting narratives that make architectural concepts accessible without oversimplifying them. Finally, we shaped the magazine's overall structure, using sequence and juxtaposition to reveal connections between projects and articulate AIDNA*'s consistent values.
The result is a publication that functions simultaneously as portfolio, manifesto, and intellectual statement. Rather than a slick showcase of finished objects, it's a thoughtful document of process and choice that communicates not just what AIDNA* builds, but why positioning the studio within contemporary architectural discourse as a thoughtful contributor to conversations about how we build and inhabit space.
